My very own domain!

My website has moved to it's very own domain, exciting stuff!

I've been busy making lots of new pieces too although I'm afraid I've been a bit rubbish at updating the website but fear not as all the new designs are available at Such and Such.  Hmmm perhaps something to do over the holidays...

Christmas at Such and Such

Wow it's cold out there, but Edinburgh is looking beautiful!  If you can bear to step out from under the duvet why not come visit the studio.

Our new display is up and looking great, so if you have been putting off that Christmas shopping why not take a peek.  It's full of lovely new jewellery and prints from Such and Such and a few other guest artists.

Sunday 14th will see me and the others from Such and Such back at the Lot for the November Magpie Market.  I've been working on some new things specially for this weekend so why not come down and have a peek and perhaps start on that Christmas Shopping!

What better way to spend a Sunday than a fair full of fantastic local craft talent...

Hope to see you there!

In progress...

A wee sneak preview of the pieces I'm making for "Curios" which opens this Friday.

Nothing Like a deadline...

As usual it's been really busy at the studio.  We've been planning the October show which I'm really excited about.  The only thing about a new show is that I'll be needing new work to put in it!  Amazing how a deadline can really inspire you to get a move on.

I will be showing a few new designs in the show which opens THIS FRIDAY! so best get on and get them ready...images to follow...ooo intriguing...

Inspiration

I'm back home on Islay this week and as usual this includes a mandatory trip to re-jig, a recycling centre full of second hand everything.  This trip saw us walk away with a hat, some balls of wool, 4 mugs and 3 gate bracket hinges.  But it's the balls of wool I wanted to talk about.

I am a terrible knitter.  I drop stitches, I create new ones and I tie knots in the wool to change colour, but despite it all, I enjoy the process.  This time i'm attempting to make a snood and started with stripes of the different colours in what I thought was a random fashion.

I'm always amazed about the way that ideas and inspiration can quietly sneek their way into your mind and then the work.  I've never really been one to sit down, design a piece of jewellery or start a drawing with a clear idea of how it will turn out, prefering instead to let instinct guide me and often it's only afterwards that I can see exactly what it was that inspired me.

Salt water swimming pools

On the shores by St Monans and Pittenweem there are 2 old outdoor swimming pools that are filled as the tide comes in.  Neither are now maintained by the local council as they had been in the past.  I think I may have become a bit obsessed with them, made even more interesting by their crumbling structures, part way between man and the sea.  A place for people, taken back by nature.

Art, chips and sunshine.

Everything has been really busy lately so I thought it was time to take a wee break and head to the coast...but where to go?  Why Pittenweem of course!

I spent 10 days working at the Pittenweem Arts Festival which hosted a fantastic mix of both resident and invited artists.

My favourite piece of the festival.  Sculpture by Kaneyuki Shimoosako, installed on the old harbour wall.

Studio Evolution

Well for the past year now I've been working from a wee studio in ArtsComplex near Meadowbank stadium and whilst it's been fun it's time for a new venture...

I'll be moving into a brand spanking new, shared space called Such and Such.  An empty shop on Brunswick Street as part of a collaborative project between myself, Caroline Cloughley, Alexandra Fiddes and David Lemm.

This new space will be part studio, part gallery and will allow us to both exhibit and create within the same place.

To keep up to date with what's going on check out suchandsuchstudio.blogspot.co.uk

New studio complete with a new workbench made by my Dad (thanks Dad!)  Best part is it's been made from old wood from a distillery back home, some of which still smells like whisky.
